Copper is often desired for both its beauty and durability. Not only does it have a striking goldish-brown color, but it is an extremely low-maintenance yet long-lasting metal. It is also highly resistant to corrosion—not many metals can outlast its durability. In fact, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recognizes copper alloys as antimicrobial metal. According to lab tests, when cleaned regularly it can kill greater than 99.9% of certain bacteria within 2 hours of contact.*

Copper and the development of patina.
Over a long period of time and exposure to oxygen and various elements, copper develops a greenish-blue coating called patina. Patina is something you often see on antique copper features such as old architecture or copper statues (like the Statue of Liberty) and is valued for its unique appearance. This process can either be sped up if desired or slowed down if not, both depending on how you care for your copper.
